Avocado

Avocado are incredibly good for you. They are highly nutritious containing a range of vitamins and minerals, very high levels of potassium (higher than bananas) as well as the essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 which reduce the levels of LDL (low-density lipo-protein, also called "bad" cholesterol) in the blood and help stabilise the blood sugar.

Avocado have also been shown to relax the muscles surrounding blood vessels so that they in effect reduce blood pressure and the risk of stroke. They are also good for the skin and hair and it has been suggested they can improve sperm health.

It takes an avocado about a week at room temperature to ripen. You can speed up the process by placing an apple next to the avocado (preferable in a bag - not in the refrigerator).
